puppy1.png When you are looking for veterinary care for your best friends, you should be able to count on superior care and excellent service while you and your pets enjoy the comfort and convenience of a house call!  We emphasize high quality care with personal individual service.  Call (573) 639-9503 to schedule an appointment and we will find a time that is convenient for you.

We recommend a check up at least once a year for your pet's health. This will include a full physical exam, consultation, and routine wellness diagnostics such as a heartworm test and fecal sample to check for internal parasites and worms. Dr. Maren Bell Jones will check the health of your pet from head to tail after an in depth discussion of their medical and behavioral history.  Their medical and nutritional history is very important and we spend time reviewing the details to keep your pet as healthy as possible.  When scheduling an appointment, please allow at least 1.5 to 2 hours for the first visit and an additional half hour per additional pet.  Follow up appointments are generally much shorter.  If we are scheduling a training or behavior consultation for your dog, please do not feed them their morning meal so they will be especially motivated for food during our training session.

Please have any medical history and records you have of your pet when Dr. Jones comes over.  Either paper or electronic medical records are helpful.  It's best to keep a journal of your pet's health throughout his or her life, including behavioral shifts.  If you have something like this, share it with Dr. Jones.  If not, let us know everything that you think will be important.  Dr. Jones can still work with whatever information you have.

It is very important to have your pets ready before our arrival.  Have a short 4-6 foot leash handy in case we need it for your dogs.  Cats in particular should be located and contained as they often have a sixth sense about disappearing before the doorbell rings!  Most cats do well in a small room such as a bathroom or walk in closet where they cannot get behind a dresser or under the bed.  This way they can be comfortable waiting while we discuss their medical and behavioral history and they can get used to the sound of my voice before handling them without having to put them in a carrier.  If we have to spend more than 10 minutes corralling your pet, an extended exam fee will be added.

In some circumstances due to limitations of the diagnostics we can do on a house call, Dr. Jones will refer you to a specialist (usually at the University of Missouri Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital) who has advanced expertise in areas such as internal medicine or surgery.
